Our Values

Our Challenge

The fashion industry is one of the most damaging industries on the planet. Clothing is produced at increasingly alarming rates, at reduced quality and for cheaper prices. The industry thrives on overproduction and overconsumption. The cost? People and the planet.

The world is slowly waking up to the need for change. However, the responsibility still largely falls on the consumer to make ‘better choices’ by doing their own research and sourcing better products. This isn’t always easy to do.

Making your own clothes may seem like a more sustainable option to buying ready-made but many of the same environmental and ethical issues still apply. Again, the customer is generally expected to be the one to make ‘better choices’ but often with very limited product information or transparency.

We decided that this is not good enough. And so began Paper Scissors Cloth, a passion project fuelled by our love of slow fashion, making and our desire to make it easier for customers to make ‘better choices’.

Our Core Values

To act with RESPECT for the planet and its inhabitants.

We have spent many hours researching all of our products. We only sell products that we feel confident are being produced in a more environmentally and ethically responsible way in terms of their choice of raw materials, production methods, life-cycle and working conditions. In addition, all of our suppliers are transparent regarding where and how their products are made. We are strictly against animal cruelty and any products that involve animals in their production must adhere to strict animal welfare guidelines.

To operate with TRANSPARENCY.

We are tired of the lack of transparency in the fashion industry.

We only source from suppliers who provide clear information regarding the origin and production of their products, and whose business values align with our own. We aim to share as much of this information as possible with our customers so that you know exactly what you are buying.

To build COMMUNITY.

Communities are vital for providing a sense of belonging, purpose and wellbeing. Only through the uniting of people will we make real change and progress. Our goal is to create a supportive, enthusiastic community of people who can share, connect and learn through their love of fashion and making.

To inspire CREATIVITY.

‘Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.’ Coco Chanel

We love fashion and we believe that making more responsible fashion choices should encourage creativity rather than stifle it. Our goal is to provide high quality, fashion-forward fabric, yarn and haberdashery together with inspiration, support and advice so that anyone can create garments that could grace the catwalk (or supermarket aisle) for years to come.

To seek and share KNOWLEDGE.

It may be a cliché but knowledge really is power. We strive to continuously improve our understanding of sustainability and fashion so that we can make better product choices and provide better information and advice. We are determined to ensure our information is as accurate as possible so we always approach information with an open mind but a critical eye.

We also hope to create a dynamic sewing and knitting resource for the making community by sharing our own sewing/knitting skills and knowledge, as well as that of others.

This is just the beginning of our journey, we have many more exciting things planned and we would love to share them with you. Please follow us on instagram and facebook and join the #pscposse!
