BRASS RULER | 15cm

I am a nostalgic nod to the old-school Japanese bamboo ruler but reimagined in a timeless polished brass. I am a delight to touch, my gentle curve emulates the character of the original bamboo rulers and fits naturally to your hands. My texture will evolve with use and I will become more beautiful the more I am loved.

Precise scales are laser-engraved on my surface and instead of numerals I have markings engraved every 2.5 cm in the traditional style so that the ruler can be used from both ends. I also come in a longer 30cm size ruler.

Fun Fact: Traditional bamboo rulers were once widely used in Japan but fell out of favour over the years as plastic rulers and cheap foreign imports flooded the market. The simple dots called hoshi or 'stars' are a distinct characteristic of the original bamboo scale designs.
