A beautiful collection of needle threaders made in collaboration with traditional Japanese paper company, Haibara. The high-quality chiyogami paper forms my stable handle making needle threading effortless and a joy to behold.
My three patterns selected from Haibara's archives form a hexagon, an auspicious shape symbolising harmony and stability. Every pattern holds a story.
-
- KUMIKI: a fun geometric pattern is a nod to Japanese traditional craft wooden puzzles.
- HYOTAN: a gourd pattern represents fruitfulness, good luck and good fortune.
- ONAGADORI & BOTAN: a pattern of long-tailed roosters and peonies, symbols of wealth, nobility, and prosperity.

Fun Fact: Since its establishment in the late Edo period, Haibara has commissioned illustrators and artists of the time to create original designs for their chiyogami. Its exquisite beauty drove the Japonisme movement in Western Europe when Japan opened up trade to the West in the 19th century. It is a much loved Japanese paper company with a rich 200-year history.
