HEXAGONAL TEMARI BOX | Blue Temari
HEXAGONAL TEMARI BOX | Blue Temari
I am an exquisite wooden handmade storage box honouring the traditions of Japanese craftsmanship. A stunning piece of home décor, I am the perfect size for small sewing notions, jewellery, or other odds and ends.
My body is made with the wild cherry trees of the Tohoku region by a company originally established in 1970 as a manufacturer of wooden medicine boxes.
I am topped with a handcrafted temari as a knob made by NONA. As if receiving life from nature again, NONA carefully extracts the gentle colours from the plants and trees to dye the threads, resulting in temari balls that are both delicate and modern, a mixture of tradition and a sense of freedom.
Fun Fact: The hexagonal shape is common in Japanese home goods as it is thought to bring harmony and stability to a household. Hand-woven balls of thread, called temari, were traditionally cherished as gifts symbolising loyalty, friendship, and a blessed life in old Japan.
