KOKESHI DOLL PINCUSHION | Blue
KOKESHI DOLL PINCUSHION | Blue
I am the cutest little pincushion, made in the traditional, sleek shape and bobbed hair of the Tsugaru kokeshi doll. First carved in snowy northern Japan by Tsugaru woodworkers as souvenirs for tourists to the regions famous hot springs, I have been given a modern, functional twist.
I open to reveal a hidden pincushion to hold your needles and I have a magnetic base to easily pick up fallen pins and needles.
I include three quality needles from Meboso Hachirobei Shoten, makers of needles for more than 440 years, preserving the ancient traditions with a unique twist on the Kyoto lineage technology.
Fun Fact: Kuroishi city of Aomori, the birthplace of Tsugaru kokeshi, recently founded the Tsugaru Kokeshi Museum to immortalise the region's wood crafts as well as to spur innovation and development through exhibitions, demonstrations and events. They also work to establish ties with traditional kokeshi doll makers and artists from all over Japan, and are working to develop kokeshi dolls into new works of art.
