Strong elastic contains a higher percentage of natural rubber, making it thicker, firmer and more robust. Recommended for heavier weight fabrics and applications where a firmer hold is needed.

Light elastic contains a smaller percentage of natural rubber, making it softer and more pliable. Recommended for light to medium weight fabrics and a good choice where greater stretch, flexibility and a softer feel are preferred.

The right choice can also come down to personal preference, particularly how firm you like your elastic to feel. If you’re unsure, it can be worth sampling both to see which you prefer.

Sanforized elastic is pre-treated with heat, natural water and pressure (rolling) resulting in little to no shrinkage.

Non-sanforized elastic does not go through this treatment and is expected to shrink 5-10% in the wash.

We recommend pre-washing all your elastic with your fabrics to account for shrinkage.

CHARLE has recently achieved full GOTS certification, meaning that the entire process, from sourcing the raw materials through to manufacturing, is now covered by GOTS standards.

Cotton is a natural fibre, but the way it is grown can make a big difference. Conventional cotton production can involve significant use of synthetic fertilisers and pesticides, and in some regions relies heavily on irrigation. Farming systems with limited crop diversity can also put pressure on soil health and biodiversity.

Organic cotton is grown under organic farming standards that prohibit synthetic fertilisers and pesticides and promote practices such as crop rotation and maintaining soil fertility.

But organic fibre is only part of the story. GOTS certification follows the fibre through the textile supply chain, setting requirements for chemical use, wastewater, resource efficiency and environmental management, as well as human rights and working conditions. Certified facilities are independently audited.

Certification isn't a magic fix, and organic doesn't automatically mean perfect. But GOTS is one of the more rigorous and comprehensive standards available for organic textiles, which is why it's a certification we look for when choosing materials for P.S.C.
