SMALL SCISSORS W/ LACQUERED HANDLES | Shunuri
I am a meticulously handcrafted pair of small scissors, perfect for detailed cutting work. My blades are forged and hand fitted by master craftsmen for a sharp edge and a smooth, hitch-free cutting experience. The final steps of the finishing process, called Koba-biki and Tip Shaving, require the senses and skill of the experienced artisan.
My warm lacquered handles make me smooth fitting and easy to use. My red colour is achieved with the Shunuri technique used to produce a vibrant vermillion red, considered the colour of celebration across Asia.
I come with a leather case to keep my blades safe, my handle is adorned with a gilt tassel and I am protected by a cloth wrapping which can be used to clean my lacquered handles. With proper care and maintenance I will last a lifetime.
Fun Fact: Ehara Lacquer Works was founded in 1970 mainly as a maker of lacquered items and Buddhist alters for temples and households. Each set of scissors displays the elegance of traditional Buddhist lacquerware.
