CHARLE is a small, family-run business based in Germany. The owners started CHARLE after discovering they were unable to source natural elastics for their own range of children's clothing.

From the beginning, they have been dedicated to developing high-quality, lower-impact materials and carefully considering every part of their process - from sourcing raw materials through to manufacturing.

CHARLE uses a range of recognised certifications and standards, including FSC, GOTS and OEKO-TEX®, and is a member of the Fair Rubber Association. Their manufacturing plant in Austria is powered by solar energy.

CHARLE has recently achieved full GOTS certification, meaning that the entire process, from sourcing the raw materials through to manufacturing, is now covered by GOTS standards.

What we particularly value about CHARLE is their commitment to transparency. We have yet to come across another supplier that takes such a thorough approach to considering the environmental and social impact of every part of their business.

TENCEL™ Lyocell is a branded lyocell fibre made by Lenzing from wood pulp. Lyocell is a type of regenerated cellulosic fibre — cellulose from wood is dissolved and then spun into a new fibre.

We choose TENCEL™ Lyocell because we can trace the fibre back to a specific manufacturer and understand more about how it is produced. Lenzing sources wood from certified and controlled sources, and its lyocell production process uses a closed-loop system designed to recover and reuse the solvent used to make the fibre.

Compared with conventional viscose production, lyocell uses a different solvent system and is produced using a process designed to minimise chemical loss and emissions. Lenzing also publishes information about its sourcing and production practices, giving us greater transparency than generic lyocell.

TENCEL™ lyocell is beautifully soft and smooth, with a fluid drape and silky feel - making it particularly lovely for lightweight ribbons and trims.
